Bang On My Drum All Day…

Register Now for a Water Bottle

We’ve ordered some smokin’ cool water bottles for the MTMS this year, available to the first ~75 registrants to pay their $50 fee by April 1. That’s just a few more days from now, so if you have been procrastinating, now is the time to get it done.

Note that you will not be able to pay your fee in Asheville without the organizers having to do backflips to accommodate you. Don’t be that guy.  Do it now; click on the button on the right.

Friday Night Drum Circle

Dozens of people playing drums of every size, shape and sound. Dozens more dancing to beats that move and evolve and become ever more interesting. MACC’s Jimmy Tyler jumped into this Asheville tradition last year and rocked the town. Bring your own drum this year and do the same. It’s a great scene every Friday night, starting around 6:30 PM, or whenever they get to it.   At Preston Park, corner of College and Patton – two blocks from the host hotel.

Wednesday Night Welcome Ride

Be sure to get into town in time to join us for our warm-up/welcome ride around town.   It’s a ride of about 15 miles around the north side of town, with a couple of climbs, one screaming downhill, and a finishing roll along the French Broad River.   We will gather at Hearn’s Cycling, immediately across Asheland Avenue from the Downtown Asheville Inn. Wheels rolling at 6:15 PM.

Wednesday Night Happy Hour(s)

After our ride and the chance to get dinner on your own, we’ll convene at The Thirsty Monk for some carbo-loading before Thursday’s suffer fest.   9 PM at 92 Patton Ave, a block from the hotel. Upstairs for hoppy American craft beers, and downstairs for the more complex Belgian offerings. MACC’s Greg Masterson will be at a loss which to hit first!

Lights, Lights and More Lights

If you plan on doing the A route on Thursday you must have lights with you. A flashing red light for the rear, and a white light for the front bright enough to light your way in a pitch-black tunnel. The Mt. Pisgah section of the Blue Ridge Parkway sports 7 tunnels, some long enough to lose all sunlight. The National Park Service police will give you a ticket if you are on that stretch without the right equipment. Fair warning, and tell your clubmates who may not be subscribed to this blog.

The B and C rides on Thursday do not require lights.
