MTMS Kits: Final Reminder

Just one final reminder that the last day to order the 2016 MTMS Kits is Monday, March 14th at 5 PM. After the store closes this year, you will never be able to get one of these jerseys again. Don’t miss your chance to look great and ride great in one of these.

Summit Registration and MTMS Water Bottles

Check out the great water bottle that all attendees who register by March 21st will receive.  Don’t wait to register and possibly miss out on these great bottles. Ken guarantees that these bottles will keep your water 20% colder than non-MTMS water bottles, and that the plastic releases electrolytes into the water as the ride gets harder.   OK….maybe not that last part, but they do look great. $50 for 5 rides is nothing.  Go ahead and register now and get it done with.   Click on the MTMS logo to the left of this article.

Ship Your Bike to Asheville

Flying to Asheville, and don’t want to pay an airline $300 to fly your bike with you? You can ship your bike to Hearn’s Cycling, a great retro bike shop immediately across the street from our host hotel, and have it waiting on you. Be sure to give it plenty of time to ship and for Hearn’s to put it together for you. First ride is 6:15 PM on Wednesday night, and the next at 10 AM on Thursday morning.  Here is how to let them know your bike is coming:

Hearn’s Cycling,  28 Asheland Ave,Asheville, NC 28801   (828) 253-4800

Wednesday Night Welcome Gathering

Be sure to get into town on Wednesday early enough to do the Welcome Ride at 6:15 PM, and our MTMS Welcome Gathering, at the Thirsty Monk Pub (just a block away from the Downtown Asheville Inn). We will do a 15 mile ride through and around town, get back in time for you to clean up, get a bite at one of the many great restaurants in downtown Asheville, then gather at the Thirsty Monk at 9 PM.

We will check-in with friends new and old, talk about the evening’s ride and what’s to come on Thursday morning, and partake of some of the best Belgian beers to be found anywhere. Downstairs at the Monk is dark and friendly – a bit like a good Belgian ale. Those who like lots of hops in their beer can head upstairs, where the Thirsty Monk serves American craft beer. Either way it’s bound to be a nice night.

Lights, Lights, Lights!!

And you will hear this often in the coming weeks: if you plan on doing the A route on Thursday you must have lights with you. A flashing red light for the rear, and a white light for the front bright enough to light your way in a pitch black tunnel. The Mt. Pisgah section of the Blue Ridge Parkway sports 7 tunnels, some long enough to have no light. The National Park Service police will give you a ticket if you are on that stretch without the right equipment. Fair warning, and tell your clubmates who many not be subscribed to this blog.

The B and C rides on Thursday do not require lights.
